Erika’s Bio

Limited licensed professional counselor

With a deep commitment to fostering emotional growth and healing, I integrate my skills as a mental health counselor and art therapist to support individuals in overcoming life’s obstacles while embracing their unique strengths and perspectives. If you’re reading this, know that I’m here and eager to walk alongside you in your journey toward healing and self-discovery!

I graduated from Wayne State University in 2023 with a dual Master of Arts degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and Art Therapy. Additionally, I obtained a Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree in Kinesiology. With a combined background in physical health and mental health, I ongoingly promote the importance of fostering the mind-body connection. I strongly value and emphasize how activities like exercise, food nourishment, and mindfulness-based movement can positively impact mental health, reduce stress, and enhance cognitive function. The added integration of art therapy techniques allows clients to tap into their creativity, promoting self-discovery and empowering them on their journey. The therapeutic art process serves as a second voice, when words fail us. As a clinical mental health counselor and art therapist, I am able to create a supportive and safe environment that respects and celebrates neurodiversity.

My services are tailored to the unique needs and experiences of each individual. I strongly believe the client is the expert and each individual is already equipped with the necessary strengths and capabilities to enact positive change in their lives. Wherever you may be on your journey, I am here to provide guidance and support by fostering trust and safety so that you are able to harness those strengths and skills.

As a first-generation immigrant from Mexico, I have shared experiences and perspectives that enrich my therapeutic approach with cultural sensitivity, empathy, and a profound understanding of the unique challenges faced by immigrants. Drawing from my own journey, I bring a deep appreciation for the resilience and strength inherent in navigating the challenges of acculturation and assimilation. My personal background allows me to establish a genuine connection with multicultural clients, as I fight for inclusivity by building spaces where individuals feel safe, heard, validated, and supported.

I offer counseling services in Spanish as a native bilingual speaker.
